Glossier: Wowder Review

Today I finally have for you guys a review on the new Wowder powder by Glossier. I have been completely head over heels for Glossier lately and once I found out that they were releasing a loose powder early August I nearly lost my sh*t. I was a bit on the fence whether I needed this or not, but like most girls can relate, I managed to make an excuse that I needed it, and asap! I was intending to share this post before August ended but as I already mentioned time slipped right through my hands with my move. I just had to talk about this powder that I shared some of my thoughts in my August favorites. Nonetheless, I decided I still wanted to go ahead and share a dedicated post to this powder because it deserves it. Also, I have been using it for about a month now and I know exactly how I feel about it and what methods work best for me. Now without further ado, let's move on in to my review.

The Wowder powder is Glossier's first ever powder release, and you guys, they did a great job with it! On their website, you can purchase the powder on its own or you can get the Wowder duo which includes the Wowder powder and the Wowder brush. You can choose from three adaptable shades, my shade is light/medium. If you didn't already know Glossier is all about the all-natural look, and this is a look I have been into since summer began. There is no surprise that they released a sheer weightless powder that won't leave your skin looking or feeling cakey. Their formula will set your makeup, cut shine, and will leave your skin matte but definitely not matte. This powder paired with the brush is meant to give you a soft finish.

I'm the kind of girl who loves to do the most in order to conceal any imperfections. I have learned a lot of different tricks and techniques that work best for myself personally. I knew that this powder wasn't going to be something that would cover-up blemishes but instead would set any foundation or concealer without adding any weight to my face. Having oily skin setting my make up with a powder is an essential step. If you're a person who gravitates to full coverage powders this may not be your best friend.

When I first received the Wowder in the mail it was mid day and a very hot day. I already had my makeup done for the day but I was still eager to give the powder a try. I was a little oily on my normal areas; my t-zone and cheeks so I figured why not use it to touch-up my makeup. My very first impression, I disliked it. I used the Wowder brush for the touch-up and it smeared the makeup I already had on. The brush left lines on my face from moving around my concealer underneath. This was such a bummer because the brush sounded very promising and feels extremely soft. I knew I would have to give it another go.
The last couple of months I have been completely skipping foundation. I only conceal a little bit underneath my eyes and any blemishes I may have. On days that I do choose to use some foundation I apply a very thin layer and then I conceal any spots on my face followed by powder. Now I have been solely using the Wowder powder and as you guys know, I love it. It really lays nicely over top liquids I've apply to my face. It sets everything beautifully without making me look dry or dull. It somehow gives my skin life, a natural beautiful radiance and leaves me matte. I can't stay the Wowder keeps my skin matte all day long since it doesn't claim to be long wearing. However, I have since tried using it for touch-ups throughout the day and it's been working wonders.

As for the brush, I can't seem to bring myself to being a fan of it. I mentioned that it is a really nice soft brush but I really dislike the way it applies the powder onto my face. It can most definitely be because I'm not used to setting my face with a brush that shape, but who knows. I do however enjoy it for other purposes such as bronzing my face and even applying blush. My brush of preference to apply any and all powder to my face is a flat-top kabuki brush. With using a flat top brush and the Wowder powder I have noticed that the powder applies more evenly and beautifully to my skin. I also find that it's the best way to really mattify my skin along with prolonging it. Over all, I'm still very pleased and satisfied with both products. I also know that the brush has worked well for others.

I also wanted to mention that I really love the packaging and really appreciate that it has a net like mesh to keep the product from pouring out everywhere.
I feel this powder will work for anyone who has oily even dry skin because it's a very lightweight powder. There is no way you'd get a cakey look with it. I for one love it and can see myself using it more months and months to come. I really hope you enjoyed this mini-review and I also hope I was able to help anyone who had any curiosity regarding the powder and/or brush. I'm planning to bring you guys some more reviews soon so keep an eye out for that!

  2. I've been looking for a new translucent powder, I think I need to try this one! And I'm a little behind on the Glossier bandwagon, I haven't tried any of their products yet! Time to change that.

  3. These past few weeks I've been loving Wonder, it really keeps my skin looking matte, even in this 90+ heat. Wowder is probably my second favorite Glossier products. 1st is the Balm DotCom.
    P.S gorgeous photographs.

    1. I love how it makes my skin look but it doesn't keep me matte all day. Those two are also my favorites along with their serum. I've been loving how it makes my skin look.

      Thank you!
